About the Event

In this workshop:

Ever receive the feedback that an editor/agent “just didn’t connect with your characters?” It’s frustrating but common—and the best way to fix this is to dig in and really learn who they are and what makes them tick!Let’s have a conversation about what you can do to create vivid characters who leap off the page as fully-fleshed out individuals. What are their quirks, their hopes, their fears? How can we portray this on page without info dumps, so it is woven in seamlessly to the prose? We’ll discuss which traits matter and which are less important—so you’re drawing your readers in with three-dimensional beings right from the opening paragraph.

About

Ella Stainton is the author of the Kilty Pleasures series from Carina Press. Her debut “Best Laid Plaids” released last summer which the Library Journal described as “a wickedly good start to the ‘Kilty Pleasures series.” The second book “Where There’s a Kilt, There’s a Way” releases on March 23rd. She teaches history’s scandals to teenagers near Richmond, Virginia. She’s lived in most Mid-Atlantic states where you can catch blue crabs, as well as four years in Sweden, and a year in Scotland (where she visited lots of haunted castles with her scientist father). She particularly likes ’80’s Eurotrash synth music, glitter eyeshadow, and men in kilts. Even better if they are all three together.
